"Fixer, Worker, Singer" is now free to read online.
This is the first piece in a cycle I call The Great Welder Stories. It's
a little steampunky and a little weird and a little dark (of course), with an experimental structure. Enjoy!

Hello!
I am resurrecting this blog to post publication news and other tidbits, so go ahead and subscribe to the RSS Feed if you want to receive notifications whenever I have something new out.
Here we go!

Fixer, Worker, Singer, Shimmer #39

The sky creaks as Fixer makes his way across the steel ramp that is suspended under the firmament. It's time to turn on the stars.

Alice in Peaceland, Nature #549

The first nightmare
The problem was we trusted Alice too much.
I knew I was dreaming.
I couldn't breathe. The air around me was thick with smoke. My eyes stung. I wiped my forehead with the back of my hand; it came away black with soot and bloody.

I've been avoiding blogging so far, because I don't like talking about myself in public. Even having a website feels somewhat counter-intuitive. However, I finally decided it is the easiest way to publicize news, circulate calls for submissions (both for fiction and academic) that I find interesting, and generally keep up with the world.

So here is a bunch of news:
  • I was pleasantly surprised to see my poem "Blackmare" in the list of nominated poems for the 2014 Rhysling Award (A big thank you to the kind stranger who nominated me!). Also, it so happens that my name is listed (at the moment) under Sofia Samatar's. That, in itself, is humbling and flattering at the same time.

  • I recently made my first short story sale to a professional market. "The Eleven Holy Numbers of the Mechanical Soul" is now live in the February issue of Clarkesworld Magazine.
